Background InfoHidan is the second newest member of the Ataksuki to be accepted into it's roster, but relatively little is known about Hidan.
Like all Ataksuki Members, Hidan is an S-Rank Criminal, though his crimes, and the penalty for them is unknown. Hidan comes from an unknown village, and practices a very twisted and bloody religion known as Jashin, which means evil heart or evil god. This religion orders nothing but complete and utter destruction, and anything less than that is considered a sin. Upon victories in battle, Hidan performs twisted and long rituals, which irritates Hidan's partner, Kakuzu, who also annoys Hidan in that Kakuzu often gets sidetracked by bounty hunting.
Hidan's weapon of choice is a large, triple-bladed Scythe, attached to the end of a long cable, though Hidan's full experience with this weapon is shrouded in mystery, and we will probably never see it, since Hidan was killed by Nara Shikamaru.
One of Hidan's trump cards is a largely dangerous, unknown Jutsu, that endures attacks and blows, and reflects the damage back to a foe; however, Hidan must ingest the blood of the foe in order to perform this Jutsu successfully. This Jutsu is how Hidan managed to take the life of Sarutobi Asuma, a Hidden Leaf Jounin who was Leader of Team 10, including Shikamaru. Because of this Jutsu, Hidan can be called immortal by some people, but the Jutsu has a weakness, discovered by Nara Shikamaru. Hidan was caught by Shikamaru's trap, and blown up by explosive tags.
Shikamaru buried Hidan's remains. Although it is unknown if Hidan is truly dead; he has disappeared, and can apparently no longer work, and was no longer part of Ataksuki.

The three blades on his scythe are not meant to increase the damage of his attacks, but rather to increase his chances of drawing his opponent's blood. Should the scythe become inconvenient or unavailable for this purpose, Hidan can also use a retractable pike to injure the opponent.
During battle Hidan makes every attempt to acquire an opponent's blood where, upon consuming it, he draws a symbol on the ground that "links" him with his opponent.Once this link is created Hidan takes on a grim reaper-like appearance and becomes what is essentially a voodoo doll for his opponent; any damage that is done to Hidan is also done to them.Hidan first uses this ability to give himself nonfatal injuries that bring him pleasure due to the pain it causes to him and the opponent. Once he is done toying with opponents in this way he stabs himself in the heart, killing them. Links can be broken prematurely if Hidan is removed from the safety of his symbol, though it can easily be reestablished by simply reentering its borders.After Hidan uses this ability to kill Asuma Sarutobi, Shikamaru Nara faces him in an attempt to gain revenge. Hidan is unable to form a link with Shikamaru and eventually falls into one of Shikamaru's traps.
